Baku Old City should be the first thing you have to visit in Baku. If you want to explore this city of winds better, you should definitely begin the journey from its historical center. Our tour guides will introduce you to the long history of the city and all stages of its development.
Old City Tour usually starts at 9:30 AM in front of the main entrance of the Old city, the paired fortress gates, called “Gosha Gala”.
Ancient caravanserais of the Old City.
A caravanserai was a roadside building where travelers could rest after the day's journey. Since Baku was always located at the intersection of trade routes, there are many caravanserais preserved to this day. And the largest of them (Multani and Bukhara caravanserais) are located in the Old City.
The Maiden Tower.
Our guides will tell you a lot of legends related to this tower, built in 12th century. You can also climb the tower and enjoy a beautiful panorama of the city.
Mosques of the Old City.
Our guide will show you various mosques located on the territory of the Inner City. Some of them are still active.
The Palace of the Shirvanshahs.
The Palace of the Shirvanshahs is a 15th-century palace built by the Shirvanshahs and described by UNESCO as "one of the pearls of Azerbaijan's architecture". In this palace complex, except the palace itself, you can also see Shrine (tombs of Shakh’s family members), Divan-khana (place where were held government meetings), The Keygubad Mosque, Mausoleum of Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, bathhouses and ovdan (reservoir).
Local Artist’s Workshop.
Barefoot artist’s workshop impresses guests with its atmosphere and bright colors. Here you can not only view the paintings, but also communicate with the artist himself.
Museum of Miniature Books.
The Baku Museum of Miniature Books is the only museum of miniature books in the world, settled in the İnner City. Zarifa Salahova’s miniature book collection consists of more than 6500 books from 64 different countries. The world’s three smallest books (“The language of flowers”, "Birthstone" and "The signs of the Zodiac") with size of 2x2mm each that can only be read with the use of a magnifying glass are also exhibited there.
We will end the tour at around 12:30pm in front of “Gosha Gala”.
